Notepad Introduction
A useful text editor is an essential component of any personal computer. If the file contains special formatting or is not a plain-text file, it will not be able to be read in Microsoft Notepad. We depend on our text editor. Microsoft provided Notepad, a superbly useful software tool, for precisely these purposes.
This application in a broad sense, provides us with the ability to create edit and save files containing text. In the image to the right, is a small example of what the Microsoft Notepad may look like while running.
Note: If you need build-in feature such as a spell checker, grammar check, multimedia and Picture, you cannot insert in Window Notepad. Only insert in Word Processor.
How to start Notepad in Computer:

Start button → All Program → Accessories → Notepad

How to open run box with command
- win+r
- Now the type the notepad in dialog box and enter.
- Open your notepad
Window 8
- Go to the Window Start Screen.
- In the run box, type the notepad and press enter.
Window 10
- Go to the window desktop.
- In the search box, where "I'm Cortana. Ask me anything".
- type the notepad.
- Click on notepad option in search box.

Win+r → This is a way to open notepad through cmd or dialog box.

The Notepad program window opens up. The Notepad window can be divided into following part:
Title Bar: It contains the system icon, current file name and the control-box with minimize, restore down and close buttons. "Untitled" in the title bar is the default name for newly created document. You can change the default file name by saving it with a different name.
Text Area: The white area enclosed within the walls of the window is the text area where the actual text is typed and operated upon. The vertical and operated upon. The vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear once the text overflow the Notepad window.
Status Bar: It is the bottom-most bar in the Notepad window. It is visible only when the "word wrap" option is inactive. When visible, the status bar shows the line and the column numbers where the cursor is currently positioned.
Creating Document
- Notepad support standard ASCII keyboards typically installed on modern computer.
- To create a document, click in the blank document area. The cursor will appear as a blinking vertical line in the upper left corner of the blank document area.
- An "Untitled" fresh file will open.
Saving Document
- After working in the file, you could save it by clicking on File → Save as.
- A Save as dialog box appears where you can type the filename in the File name text box.
- Click on Save button to finish the saving task.
- Notice that the new file name appears on the title bar.
- By default, a Notepad file has .txt extension.

Changing Font, Style and Size

- However, change this setting by clicking on Format → Font .....Menu Option.
- Notepad uses Lucida Console, 10 points, as default font setting.
- Choose any Font.
Font Style
- However, change this setting by clicking on format → font style.....Menu option.
- Notepad uses Regular, 10 point, as default font style setting.
- Choose any Font Style.
Font Size
- Click on Format in menu option.
- Click on Font.
- Change the size according to your choice.

Word Wrap

As you type in the Notepad document, the cursor keeps on moving on the same line. The cursor goes to the next line only when you press Enter key which marks the end of the current paragraph and beginning of a new paragraph.
To view long lines one has to scroll horizontally either to the left or to the right. Word Wrap feature of Notepad, when turned on, displays long lines wrapped within the text area.
Word Wrap feature is enabled by clicking on Format → Word Wrap. A check-mark is visible next to the option when this feature is active.

- Ctrl+O = Open document file
- Ctrl+S = Save document file
- Ctrl+P = Printout Notepad Page
- Ctrl+A = Select all text
- Ctrl+C = Copy Text
- Ctrl+X = Cut Text
- Ctrl+V = Paste
- Ctrl+Z = Undo Text
- Ctrl+F = Find Text
- Ctrl+H = Replace the Text
- F3 = Find Next
- F5 = Show Time/Date

DeleteI find notepad has very limited features and is very basic. I use Microsoft word as it has multiple options and is much faster to use.
