Input Joystick

4. Joy Stick

It is a Joy stick having a spherical ball at its both lower and upper ends. Joystick is also a pointing devices which is used to move cursor position on a monitor screen. The joystick can be moved in all four direction. The lower spherical ball moves in a socket.

Joystick is a lever that moves in all directions and controls the movement of a pointer or some other display symbol. With a joystick the pointer continues moving in the direction the joystick is pointing. A joystick is similar to a mouse except that with a mouse the cursor stops moving as soon as you stop moving the mouse.

The function of joystick is similar to that of a mouse. It is mainly used in Computer Aided Designing (CAD) and playing computer Games.

5. Track Ball

Track ball is an input device that is mostly used in notebook or laptop computer instead of a mouse. An input device that looks like an upside-down mouse. The onscreen pointer is moved by the trackball with a thumb or finger.

This is a ball which is half inserted and by moving fingers on ball, pointer can be moved. Since the whole device is not moved, a track ball requires less space than a mouse. A track ball comes in various shapes like a ball, a button and a square.

A track ball requires less arm and wrist motion that a regular mouse takes and therefore is often less stressful for the user to use, helping to prevent RSI. The picture of the Logitech cordless trackball mouse is an Example of a trackball mouse that uses the thumb for movement.

6. Graphic Tablet

The graphics tablet can also be used to capture users signature. This use is similar to the signature pads found at any retail stores, where you would write your signature after using a credit card to make a purchase.
The first graphics tables for home computers was the KoalaPad. Developed by koala Technologies in 1984, the Koalapad was originally designed for use by the Apple II Computer, but later was available for the IBM pc compatible computer as well.

They are helpful because they computer mouse. The picture to the right shows an example of a pen Graphics Table from Wacom. Alternatively referred to as a drawing tablet and pen tablet, a graphics tablet is a hardware input device that enables an artist to draw or sketch digitally using a pen or styles.

The computer will convert the drawing strokes into digital form, displaying them on the computer screen. Similar to an artist drawing with a pencil and paper, a user draws on the graphics tablet with a styles.

7.Scanner

A scanner is an input devices which works more like a photocopy machine. It is a scanner device that capture images from photographic prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for Computer editing and display. It is used when some information is available on a paper and it is to be transferred to the hard disc of the computer for further manipulation. Scanner capture images from the source which are then converted into the digital form that can be stored on the disc. These images can be edited before they are printed.
Scanners come in hand-held, feed-in and flatbed types and for scanning black & white only, or color. Very high resolution scanners are used for scanning for high resolution printing, but lower resolution scanner are adequate for capturing images for computer display. Scanners usually come with software such as Adobe's Photoshop product, that lets you resize and otherwise modify a captured image.

8. Microphone

Microphone is an input device to input sound that is then stored in digital form. the microphone is used for various applications like adding sound to a multimedia presentation or for mixing music.

Where is the microphone plugged into a Computer?

The Microphone is plugged into the back of desktop computers into the computer sound card microphone port and depending on your computer case may also have a port on the front. On a laptop Computer, the microphone is plugged into the microphone port found on the front or side of the laptop.

9. Optical Mark Reader (OMR)

Optical mark reader (OMR) is a special type of optical scanner used to recognize the type of mark made by pen or pencil. It is used where one out of a few alternative is to be selected and marked. It is specially used for checking the answer sheets of examinations having multiple choice questions.

OMR is the process of gathering information from human being by recognizing marks on a document. OMR is accomplished by using a hardware device that detects a reflection or limited light transmittance on or through piece of paper.

OMR allows for the processing of hundreds or thousands of physical documents per hour. For example, students may recall taking tests or surveys where they filled in bubbles on paper with pencil.

10. Bar Code Reader (BCR)

A Bar Code Reader (BCR) or scanner, also known as a point of sale scanner is hardware device capable of reading a barcode. Bar Code Reader is a device used for reading bar codded data (data in form of light and dark lines). Bar Codded data is generally used in labeling goods, numbering the books etc. It may be a hand held scanner or may be embedded in a stationary scanner. Bar Code Reader scans a bar code image, converts it into an alphanumeric value which is then fed to the computer to which bar code reader is connected.
It can also print out the details of the product or log information about that product into a database. A perfect Example of a barcode reader is a super market barcode scanner that reads and logs the price of a product.
